Mill Stream begins just up river of Town Lock. Between that point and The Mill each landowner that has a boundary with the stream has riparian rights and obligations towards the watercourse and owns the land up to the centre of the stream, unless deeds show otherwise.

Obligations include:

  • The passage of flow must be allowed without obstruction or pollution.
  • The river bed and bank, including trees and shrubs growing on the bank, must be maintained. Any debris, natural or otherwise, including litter, even if it did not originate from your land, must be cleared.
  • Ensure that the watercourse or bank is not used for the disposal of garden or any other waste.
  • Keep the bank clear of any debris or loose material that could cause an obstruction, either at that point or further downstream.
